The Leaf Methodology

The LEAF Methodology is a comprehensive approach that allows you to foster a culture of inclusion, creativity and innovation in the workplace and equips you with what you need to become a Collective Intelligence Catalyst. It is based on specific core values and beliefs which translate into observable attitudes and behaviours. These values, attitudes and behaviours are fundamental when you want to become an authentic and effective Collective Intelligence Catalyst. They are also crucial for the cultural change needed to create the aspirational workplace.

The Book

This book is the product of three years of hard work at the keyboard and more than fifteen years of practice working with groups of all sizes and shapes. We have written it for anyone in the workplace who wants accessible guidelines about how to become more skilful at working with a group or team of people towards a specific goal or outcome, to generate ideas and solve problems.

The main purpose is to accompany you, the reader, on the journey to becoming an effective Collective Intelligence Catalyst and to provide you with what you need to bring about a more inclusive workplace that capitalises upon diversity and the wisdom of groups. The tools and techniques in the book allow you to go beyond the obvious, tap into the collective intelligence of your participants and come up with better and more sustainable ideas and solutions.

Culture matters, but it doesn’t define us

Whenever we work with a group of people, we are working with culture. I like the simple definition of culture as “the way we do things around here”. It captures how culture shapes not just what we do, but the values, behaviours and assumptions we often take for granted. Sometimes cultural differences are obvious: people from different countries, speaking different first languages and bringing different experiences.

At the heart of this journey is the understanding that transforming team dynamics and unlocking collective intelligence requires more than a well-intentioned approach – it requires real, actionable skills. My aim in this article is to go a bit deeper into the practical skills that every catalyst needs to master.

True collective intelligence doesn’t happen by chance

Collective intelligence is an extremely common and natural phenomenon that occurs when two or more people gather in the same place, physical or virtual, to discuss a topic together. The knowledge, information, skills, and insights of each individual brain combine with those of others, creating a form of superintelligence that has the potential to transcend individual limitations and solve problems that one person alone cannot solve, or would require much greater effort to address.
